Photographs are a way of imprisoning reality. One can’t possess reality, one can possess images—one can’t possess the present but one can possess the past.

Full Name: Marco Antonio Longo

Home: Montreal, Canada

Formal Training: Architecture

I was born and raised in Montreal, studied in Ontario and Italy, worked in New York, Seattle, Paris, and London, and finally settled back in my hometown after completing my architecture thesis.

Throughout it all, my camera was never out of reach. It’s been that way since my parents charged me with documenting our family trips. And so I travel and take photos - work and take photos, go for walks and take photos. It’s become kind of a crutch, really - easier to process it all through a viewfinder.

As a photographer, I’m drawn to lonely highways, to punishing landscapes. I’m an animal lover. I’m naturally curious about our built environment, but often the parts rather than the whole. I’m fascinated by the small (and not so small) ways we infringe upon nature. I often isolate my subjects, keeping compositions simple and uncluttered, lit by a single source (direct sunlight, a harsh spotlight), and shot on longer lenses. But mostly, I just point and shoot, and sometimes they look pretty nice (I think).
